From Mr. Tortora

Dear Orchard Hill Families,
Well, our string of beautiful weather had to come to a close at some point, but we didn't let the rain dampen our "Students Dress Like Teachers/Teachers Dress Like Students" Spirit Day today!
To all of our families celebrating Diwali this weekend, I wish you a very Happy Diwali!
Have a wonderful weekend!!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Three adjustable spotlights cast bright yellow beams of light downwards.

Caron Carpenter - Grade 4 Teacher

  1. # of years at Orchard Hill and # of years in education? 9 years at Orchard Hill and 24 years teaching!
  2. What do you enjoy most about working at our school? I love the sense of community at Orchard Hill. The staff and students care about one another, making it a place where we can learn and have fun together every day. We truly are a family here at OH! 💗
  3. What inspired you to be an educator? My third-grade teacher, Mrs. Deldo, made learning so much fun and engaging. I looked up to her and knew early on that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. As a kid, I used to set up my dolls and stuffed animals to play "school," and for birthdays or Christmas, my wishlist always consisted of teaching supplies. Nothing was more exciting than opening up a box filled with workbooks, colored pens for grading, stickers, notebooks, Post-it notes, etc.!
  4. Where did you grow up?  I grew up in Torrington and New Hartford, CT
  5. What college did you graduate from? I graduated from CCSU
  6. What was your favorite sport/activity growing up? Cheerleading and dance
  7. What was your favorite childhood book or show?  Corduroy by Don Freeman and the Sweet Pickles series
  8. Do you have any pets? 2 dogs, Zoey and Kanga, that are sisters from the same litter. We adopted them right before Covid shut down the world so we got to spend a lot of time with them when they were puppies!
  9. What is your favorite food or snack? I love Mexican food!
  10. What do you like to do outside of school? I love to hike, garden, and go to the beach with my family!
  11. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Somewhere tropical like the Maldives!
  12. If you weren't in education, what would you want to do? Owning an animal sanctuary for neglected or homeless animals!
